Mobile Computers

Mobile Computers allow mobile, real time data collection to your computer system. RF Systems can provide the tool companies need to increase productivity. Wireless RF systems increase the speed and accuracy of data input and verification functions performed during inventory, shipping, and receiving. Building a Unified Enterprise Mobility Strategy. After using or implementing new sophisticated computer systems to help you run your business, why not provide the necessary technology to feed data more accurately and faster into your computer system?

Mobile Computers are available in different physical form factors: handheld pistol grip, handheld open palm style, wearable, or forklift mounted. These different form factors allow you to choose the type of device that's appropriate for your use. Contact your ScanTexas Area Representative to discuss your specific needs.

Mobile Computers are easily integrated into existing software applications. Terminal emulation, Windows CE, and thin client application generators provide the different integration tools needed to interface to current software applications. Terminal emulation allows mobile, wireless devices to connect to a host computer system as a VT type terminal, IBM 5250 (AS400) type terminal, or IBM3270 type terminal. As the radio frequency devices have smaller screens than full screen terminals, the display portion can be rewritten or middle ware software can be used to re map the larger screens down to the smaller handheld screens. Application generators such as MCL,or Wavelink can speed up the application development effort in a Windows environment.

ScanTexas also provides custom software development capabilities for data collection applications. These systems can be anything from an Access database for inventory control to a field technician dispatch system with remote communications and PC call tracking functionality. Current RF networks (including 802.11 communications) communicate at 11 Mb up to 54Mbps, which is very fast for most transaction oriented systems whether character or GUI based. Newer standards like 802.11a or 802.11g specify higher speed (54 Mbps) data rates that are more appropriate for wireless PC network GUI applications that send a lot more data than transaction based systems. Remember that the new higher speed access points will have limited coverage ranges of around 100 feet, versus the 200-700 feet range we currently experience.

ScanTexas has 75 years of experience designing and integrating radio frequency systems for customers in numerous industries. ScanTexas is currently certified by the major mobile computer manufacturers on their mobile computer products.
