ScanTexas offers RFID solutions that range from compliance label printing systems to more complex conveyor or pick to pallet solutions. These RFID solutions help customers comply with retail industry or governmental RFID labeling mandates. Or customers may seek further efficiencies in their internal processes above and beyond what traditionally has been achieved with barcode data collection.

RFID solutions are more complex than traditional scanning applications, and ScanTexas has the expertise you need to be successful with RFID implementations. ScanTexas is currently certified by Motorola, Zebra, Intermec, and Datamax to sell their RFID product lines. With manufacturer’s certifications, and our staff’s combined experience of over 80 years in the data collection industry, ScanTexas can help you find the value proposition of RFID and make it a reality for your business.

RFID is Radio Frequency Identification, a technology that has been around for some time. The most common RFID application that people see in use today is toll tags inside their automobile. As they drive past the toll booth, the reader senses the tag data and charges their account the toll amount. The reader emits a signal at a certain frequency, which energizes the tag to transmit its data back to the reader. The RFID reader does not require line of sight like barcode scanning does, and can read through windows and boxes and totes, etc.

The most popular RFID standard going forward is EPC Global Generation 2. This is the standard that Walmart, Kmart, and the DOD have selected for RFID tagging mandates. These tags come in several flavors, including tags that can be printed in traditional barcode label printers as well as tags that are pre encoded with license plate data. For more information on the EPC standard, please refer to http://www.epcglobalinc.org/.

Typical applications will include compliance labeling, tote tracking, case and pallet tracking, and any other application where automatic identification is needed but it may be hard to provide a barcode that is easy to scan.
